The Role of Facility Management in University Startup Ecosystems: A Startups’ Perspective

In addition to offering flexible workspaces and facilities, the role of Facility Management (FM) in University Startup Ecosystems (USE) is also about helping people connect and grow their businesses within the USE. Startups are looking for an affordable campus environment, with a wide range of flexible spaces that can adapt to their needs as they evolve. They also want to be close to students, the university community, other startups, and the city, to make collaboration easy.

Beyond just having a place to work, startups also need help with their core business activities. Offering a variety of services that help with networking and business development, such as organizing events and providing services of coaching, financing, legal advisory, marketing, employer branding, and procurement, can make a big difference. This is why FM plays a critical role, not just by providing the physical space but also by creating an environment that supports connections and business development.

Therefore, FM can be aimed at enhancing connections and business development in the USE. It is suggested to implement flexible space and facility sharing strategies and provide various networking and business development services within USE.
